Résumé
It is quite known that impacts of tourism growth – above all in developing countries – are not always positive. Often, tourism development marginalizes local population, degrades the environment, causes social disruption and damages local culture.
What can projects promoted by international cooperation do in order to minimize negative effects of tourism expansion?
These are the main topics of the thesis that researches on results and impacts of development projects in the field of tourism. Two case studies have been chosen to explore the issue. The first is a project promoted by an Italian NGO, ACRA, and co-funded by the European Commission: the Pro Poor Tourism Project in Zanzibar. The second project studied – “Turismo e Qualità Ambientale” – is co-funded by the Sardinian Regional Administration and implemented by a partnership including Sardinian and Tunisian institutions and organizations.
